This paper describes a study on future competence needs in manufacturing and how a learning factory utilising a Connective Model for Didactic Design can be used in teaching and learning of these competencies. The paper briefly reports on a literature study, and a set of interviews in Norwegian manufacturing companies to get a better understanding on the expected future competence needs. This was used to design a learning process with four steps: 1: Exploration, 2: Product and process design, 3: Problem solving and 4: Debriefing. The method was tested in a case study where undergraduate students are learners following the 4-step method. The approach was evaluated through feedback from the learners.en_US
