dc.description.abstractThe aim of the project is to develop new knowledge, integrated solutions, and technologies of small/micro wind turbines. Financed by the Norwegian State Housing Bank (Husbanken) the project tries to analyse possibilities for the increased use of small/micro wind turbines and starts with a review of wind turbine technology and international projects where wind turbines were installed and - moreover – integrated into the building design. Available documentation was reviewed with respect to building design, technologies applied, and resulting energy performance, cost and other significant experiences. Further should the project develop more knowledge of the acceptance of integrated solutions and review the barriers and potential for such wind turbine technology in Norway. These investigations included measurements, interviews, and audits. Also, energy simulations were carried out and compared/calibrated to measured data. The results show that effect of location is very important, together with turbine type and size. The wind conditions can be influenced by designers and planners by taking urban and building design in to account and specifically focusing on the parameters axis height, surrounding topography and wind channeling effects
